Title: The "Official" Post MotoGP @ Indy Thread
Post by: BryanS on September 16, 2008, 08:28:35 AM
I had a great weekend!  In spite of some inclement weather this has to be the highlight of the year.  It was great to meet a bunch of new people and to be there for the inauguration of such a historic event.  I know we had some people, like Bob, travel from far off places like Scotland (and Kurt came from Spain :L )

To my knowledge everyone has made it home safely, or are still enjoying their vacation in the US :L

I know we had a few hiccups and it was great to see members helping each other out to get through them.

There's a gallery of pics started in the gallery section of the site.  Be sure to check out the pics, leave comments, and upload your own.

I know that the original MotoGP thread contained pages and pages of planning posts so lets move the discussion over to this thread to have all the fresh stuff available for members to find easily :L

Mario told me that the card trick was broadcast on television, live, world-wide, for a full 5 seconds.  I guess the Italians gave it a "decent" but from the picture I found I think we kicked ass :L

I guess the words for "decent" and "superb" must translate the same from Italian to English [laughing]

Hats off to the hometown Hoosier folks for all their efforts during this great event.  While I did not get the chance to meet any other Hooligans and the weather was truly Biblical at times (did you hear what Rossi said about it during the post race?  He said he was praying for the red flag!), it was still such a well run event I already know I am coming back next year.  Well done to everyone involved!

If Mario got a knee down, what kind of condition is his bike in after that lowside?

Just F'ing with Mario on the knee down thing.  But seriously, Hoosier Hooligans got some hard core exposure this weekend, and Mario seemed to be at the highest visibility level at all times.  I think anyone that strolled through the Island now knows that Mario and the Hoosier Hooligans exist.  Good job Grifo!  I'm just glad you didn't go down leading the largest Ducati group ride in the U.S. and turning it into the largest group accident.  Again, F'ing with ya.  That must have been a thrill.

He told me that he found a belt sander and used it to wear in his knee pucks a bit [laughing]

I really over-did it this weekend. I had four sets of friends in town and didn't get to spend much time with any of them!

Had a group of engineers from Harley (10 ppl), Friends from Ohio (25 ppl), Friends from Chicago (20 ppl) and friends from Ireland (3 ppl).
Almsot 60 people to herd around to restaurants, the track, the flat track, to hotels  -it was a massive clusterfuck. Had reservations for 25 at BARCelona on Friday and over 50 showed up -and not all at the same time.

I learned my lesson, I'm not planning shit next year and am going to worry about me only. Looking forward to it already! And I'll get to hang out with the Hooligans a bit mroe!

I was wondering where I was in the lettering. I was in the 'A' and that was the best looking letter by far.  It would look a lot better if we could fill in the aisles.

If the weather would of cooperated I bet the could of got the card up for a dry run then fill in the holes.  Well we all know what the cards would of looked like if they did that.

I brought my brother-in-law, a HD owner with me into the Duc Island, and he had a great time.

Cool pics of the card stunt.  Looks better than I expected with 40mph winds tossing sh!t around.

Bob,  It was good finally meeting you.  Glad you had a good time other than doing laps around Chicago.  Next trick is to come over and join you for one of those road races (and get there BEFORE you leave).  Thanks for the sticker.  Displayed proudly on the toolbox.

Hi gang,

First of all I´d like to extend a big saludo to everyone I met (and everyone I didn´t meet also  [laughing]), an extra special thank you to Mario for organizing the bike for me.. a super extra special thank you to Drew for lending me the 900SS (and may I say what a fine ride that 944cc overbored desmodue is  :L ) and your hospitality post race inviting Ana and I into your home, thank you Oni for guiding me and being so nice - everyone I met (Bryan, mitt.. our Scottish connection et al) was really nice and I felt very welcome. Especially so as no one had ever met me before in person, I shall never forget your kindness. Ok, enough of the girlie talk..

I´ve got some good pics of the race and the qualifying but, they are all in RAW format and I´ve got to process them and crop them a bit (some of the background is really crap with a part of the inside wall and fencing). My lens is only a 200mm with a teleconverter so they aren´t the best of pictures.

We´ve just arrived home an hour and a bit ago and I need to get through unpacking the 60 odd suitcases (okay, exaggerated a bit there... 6 suitcases) and prepping everything for work tomorrow.

I´ll post up later.

Regards,
Kurt

Kirtesh and Ana

It was a pleasure to meet you and Ana. I love motorcycles and love riding even more so when I heard you were here and in need of a bike I did not think twice. I have been in your shoes before. After meeting you and Ana I was even more assured that I was doing the right thing. We had a great time after the race chatting it up with whit the two of you and Oni. With Stacy's job taking her all over the word amazingly Spain is one country she has mot made to. I hope your offer to come visit was good because I think Stacy's bags were half packed an hour after you left. [laughing]

Hi Gang,

I do apologize for the delay, and my known laziness, for posting up the pics very late. We had an absolute blast, and both Ana and I truly are grateful for your kindness and hospitality. Right then, enough of the gay talk, onto the pics.. I've got a load more to process but these were the best ones that I have. It was the first time I'd used that lens and with the frikkin gales blowing us around it was not easy focusing (that's my excuse anyway  [twofinger] )  :L

This month’s issue of Motorcyclist magazine has a nice write-up on Project Mugello. (See Cat Tales, page 9.)  It’s called Brick by Brick and tells of the Indy weekend with special mention of the DOC project and includes a large photo of the Ducati card stunt.  It's a pretty nice write-up. Brian Catterson chose to sit in the Mugello grandstands (that's the name the speedway printed right on the tickets as many of you know) even in the rain, instead of the VIP places he had access to as editor of Motorcyclist. Sometimes a "Motorcyclist" is just a motorcyclist. That's a good thing.
