I talked a little bit with Bill Carr while down there this past Friday.
He told me that he had a meeting with Vicki Smith and Elliot Cho, and they talked a bit about of what is going to happen.
Talks of the grand stands filled with Ducatisti is one goal along with the Hooligans staffing the hospitality tent and gear check station.
Also a group ride starting from IndyDucati was planned where everyone could pick up their passes for the race.
I wanted to talk more but as you all that were present saw Bill was pretty busy.
I need to make it down there on a day just to talk to him and possibly with Elliot as well.

I sent a message to M.usic C.ity M.onster C.lub in Nashville via the DML this morning inviting them to the event also. I sent Bryan a PM what I wrote, if you want to see it you could ask him to pass it along I suppose.

Here's what I posted to them

""Howdy fellerz. Greetings from Hoosier Hooligans. As Indiana's first and only desmo owners club, we are putting forth effort with Indianapolis Motor Speedway to possibly do some volunteer work at the track for some of the event. In conjunction with Ducs Unlimited and Desmo Ohio, we are trying to put something together like a gear check station and working in Ducati's hospitality tent. If any are interested in attending you can either contact myself at grubby@hoosierhooligans.org (southern indiana recruiter), grifo@hoosierhooligans.org (president) or BryanS@hoosierhooligans.org (vice president and webmaster).
Hope to see some of you there.  ""

Vicki emailed me this today

In response to some confusion (well actually a LOT of confusion) I'd like to underscore that the "Project Mugello @ Indy MotoGP" planning is in no way related to any other Indy MotoGP project, specifically; the VivaDucati tour package. VivaDucati is a private, "for profit" endeavor and has nothing to do with the D.O.C. project or Ducati North America in any way.  We love seeing passionate ownerspress their Ducati pride, but we must also keep the lines clear and make sure everyone is on the same page. That said, lets talk about Project Mugello:

I'd like to give you an update on how things are going. (standard disclaimer: everything is still in the planning stages, things could change, etc. but since this is "our" project I want everybody to know what's potentially on the table so far)

HOTEL D.O.C Central - I have reserved a whole hotel for D.O.C. members only. The idea is to give preference to people who bring Ducati's to the weekend in order to get some parking lot synergy going, which I hope you will agree is a big part of what makes a great club weekend. This hotel has the basics - it's a good price by race weekend standards ($139 for a regular double and $75 for the Thursday and Monday), parking for trailers, a staff that is OK with us comcommandeeringhe parking lot in total and Italian and Mexican within walking distance. It also has a conference room for our use, is near to the Indy dealer which I think might be a secondary center of action and is just far enough from the raceway that we can have an organized "red snake" ride to the track like they do at WDW. It's a good idea to gather a list of who in your club wants to reserve rooms, it will be first come first serve, and must be approved through the club President in order to keep the rooms from going to non-Ducati owners. I hope to be able to open the reservations next week, I have submitted the contract and am just waiting to hear it has been received in the mail.  Reservations will be made on an individual basis through the hotel once I give them the list of names.

PARTY - There will probably be a party at the dealer one night, Thursday is what's being discussed but this could change. Once the planning is a little further along there will of course be more details but ideally, in the European tradition it would be nice to have the racers attend. We all know you can't just pick up the phone and request Casey Stoner but I'm going to try. I am, as some of you know, an excellent begger. More importantly, so is Andrea Venturi. I beg Andrea, Andrea begs Corse, etc. etc. :-)

D.O.C. GRANDSTAND - The grandstand selection is progressing and the track is considering building us something special - good viewing is the big issue of course but there are several locations that accomplish this. The plan is to try and keep us as close as possible to the Ducati North America "Ducati Island" area. If you have ever been to Indy speedway you know how big the place is, minimizing mamandatorylking is always a good plan. The idea is to stage a  "Mugello Grandstand", where we all use red and white cards to spell DUCATI. This has never been properly done outside of the Mugello race (and it's been attempted all over Europe) so it's a matter of National D.O.C. Pride that we pull this off.  I'll need your help getting your members to understand how big a feat this really is. Failure is NOT and option. :-)

Ducati Track Lap - In an effort to get as many people to bring bikes as possible we are asking for a Ducati only track lap. Keep your fingers crossed that they work with us on this, a lap of Indianoplis Motor Speedway with nothing but the sound of Ducati engine music would be somewhat epic in my opinion and the perfect highlight to the weekend.

For the record, this whole project is the result of a number of great ideas and a whole lot of iniinitiativen the part of about 10 D.O.C.s (and more getting involved all the time) so I really want to thank you all for embracing this. We will go a lot farther working as a group than any of us can go as a single club.  I'd like to have all Presidents interested in being involved meet in a chat room for a general discussion. I'll email everybody with a time we and place for this as soon as I have a few more things in place. In the meanwhile please feel free to contact me directly with suggestions or questions.

There's more, organized group rides/drives in from around the US, hopefully some space we can fund raise and member prospect from in the DNA area, volunteer staffing -  lots of details that are still in the planning and not ready to announce yet.
Bottom line: This is a weekend that's long on the real world touching, feeling and hearing of Ducati's, meeting other enthusiasts and sharing the Ducati Passion while keeping it as short on cost as I can make it. No VIP's, we're all DIP's, Ducati Important People and this weekend is for US! :-)

Regards,
Vicki Smith

Dear D.O.C. Presidents,

As promised, here's the hotel information for Indy. Please submit your list of names directly to me asap. Title the email subject line INDY HOTEL NAME LIST FROM _______ (club name). The hotel is the Country Inn and Suites in Carmel, Ind. It's a non-smoking hotel, if this is a problem there are a couple of hotels near by we can overflow to. Prices are $139 for a standard double, $149 for a suite and $159 for a jaccuzi suite. 2 night minimum, either Sat/Sun or Friday/Sat  Rooms on Thursday and Monday are $75 for a standard double.

This hotel will be D.O.C. Central, please make members arriving with Ducati's a priority. Clubs more heavily involved in Project Mugello will be given priority since they will be helping staff the weekend.

Deadline for names is Thursday October 25th. Your members should be able to contact the hotel on Friday with a credit card to secure the room. If they are not on the list they will not take the reservation. (I'm not trying to be tough or controlling here, just making certain this hotel is 100% full with D.O.C. members) I expect we will fill this hotel no problem and there will be some people turned away. I apologize in advance. The parking lot "scene", on the other hand, will welcome those that have to stay nearby so while the absolute convience might not be available to everybody, the Ducati comraderie will be.

The hotel has trailer parking in the back of the parking lot. There is Italian, Mexican and a couple of other food sources within walking distance. It's about a mile from Ducati Indianapolis and roughly 15 miles from the track.

Regards,
Vicki Smith

Hi Mario,
I have your group at the Drury Inn, just down the street from the DOC  Central hotel. We have 4 hotels now and I'm looking for a 5th if you can believe that.  The Drury Inn is $144 for a double, we have 50 rooms there. The price includes a hot breakfast buffet, internet, a nightly reception including drinks, and an hour of free long distance. It's a nicer hotel than the DOC central with better amenities actually.  The number to call is 800-325-0720, the rooms are under group name Project Mugello.  It's a 2 night minimum and they charge the card one night non-refundable 45 days prior to event (but you can give the room to another person, they just won't refund the money). All they have is a name list, each person has to tell them what room they need and what days. Also tell them if they have questions about the details please make sure they ask the hotel. I don't want to be involved in ruining anybody's vacation over a misunderstanding and with this many people and hotels involved it could happen easily.
By the way, the speedway is now holding 3000 tickets for us and there is a ton of stuff in the planning, literally more every day. Give me a call when you have time and I'll fill you in. You should be able to call them and book the room by Wed of next week. I'll send you an email when I have the room list turned in to the hotel because they need to be secured asap, this hotel is only giving me a few days to lock them down on credit cards.
Vicki

Mario, I've already booked at the Country Inn for the weekend (I ended up on two lists and booked room with first available.  I should be taken off our list so as not to confuse Vicki and to open up another slot for you guys.  Sorry about the mix up.  I think we are all in the general vicinity anyway and I'm sure we will be partying at the same places, so no problem.

Anyone hear anything about ticket sales?  I know there was some talk about 3,000 tickets set aside for Ducati owners.  I got an email today from IMS announcing the presale of tickets and wondered if this means that DNA is going to offer tickets to us soon.

As far as I know now there are 3000 tickets set aside for the DOC/Mugello project. Will we be able to get our tickets once they decide for sure where they are going to seat us.
(Off the record not official yet, but sounds like we are going to have a special bleacher section in a very good location on the track).

OK I know that Ducati has us hooked up for the motogp weekend, but my question is what are they hooking us up with????

Like do we need to buy our own tickets???  or will they be provided??? if they are provided who gets them and how many do we get???  this might be a good thing to know that way if we don't get enough for everyone, then maybe we could throw a pool together and and everyone chip in for the tickets that way it is fair for everyone.....

We need to get this addressed pretty quickly as the really good tickets are already sold out and the others are going fast from what I have heard.......... :L

As I said before:
There are 26 DOC clubs involved in the project Mugello. We are on the front line with Drill and Ducsunlimited.
Freebies as far as I know we are getting NONE.  Rumors I heard Ducati Island pass, from CarrMoto and Maybe I repeat MAYBE a t-shirt.
But with all the duties within the Ducati Island and around IMS (parking/gear check/hospitality) as well, if you are involved you might not even be able to watch the race.
Now tickets I was assured by Vicki that there are 3000 tickets reserved for the project Mugello. Again 26 Clubs involved that means a lot of people. ( Yes as now we have to pay  for the grandstand ticket).
The Grand stands are not been announced yet but rumor is they will be located on B11 with a great view of the turns.
(I honestly don't know where B11 is, if you do point it out).
If any of you does not want to be part of the project Mugello, please say so, order your tickets and have fun at the race.
As now I have no further information. I know Vicki is been back and forth from Italy, (Champions Party) working on the hotels and planning stuff with DNA.
She told me not to confirm anything yet as things are still being discussed with IMS Ducati SPA and DNA.

This is the last email concerning Moto GP 2008 that I received from Vicki.

Hi Mario,
I'm back from Italy now and sent DNA a note to see if the grandstands were ready to announce yet. They said no but soon so I am on it but don't have anything to announce yet. As for the club duties, once we are ready to announce we'll have that chatroom with the club presidents, make a list of who is responsible for what areas and staff down from there. We will have things outside of Ducati Island to help with, as well as on the Island as well but it's too soon to move on the organization of it all because the big pieces are still not fully in place. First priority this week is to check with the hotels and see how the rooming lists look, re-offer whatever rooms aren't locked down and try and fill the overflow list of names I still have. That and the grandstands need to be locked down and then we can move to phase two which is organizing from there. We have 26 clubs on board, I will get with you, DRILL, Ducs Unlimited (the first clubs to get on-board with this) and offer you guys the first level of management if you want it since you guys are geographically closest and in theory, first on the ground for the event itself.
Regards,
Vicki

Does this mean that the club isn't going to be supporting the event so that we can watch the race?  I'd rather be there and not see all of the race so that we can help promote our club.  Besides, we get to benefit from the support other clubs give when we go to races in their area.... we should do our part when the race comes to our town...

It means that some of the people involved will probably be stuck doing something during the race...
We have first choice on what we'll do.  So I think spelling Ducati on the grandstands and the Hospitality tent sould be our duties :L

Thanks for editing, you came across as just being sarcastic the first time.
Bryan I feel just like you do, I want the club to roll up their sleeves and get involved.   I'm sure 75% of the rest of the club is on our same page.
I'm just saying no one gives anything away for free, if we are getting some perks from DNA I'm sure they expect something back.

BS, I'm sure there will be more than enough time left in the weekend to promote the club without any of us needing to miss part or all of the race, qualifying, and trophy presentation.  I'm not, and I sure won't be asking anyone else to.

Question:  Any more news on tickets in the Duc stand?  My wife and I (and maybe a friend or two) were wanting to get tickets and hotel rooms soon.

One more question:  Can non-Duc owners participate in the party at Indy Ducati and other events (wife has a Ninja and friend has an R1) or will they have to fend for themselves ;)  ?

As far as I know you can bring a guest, no more info on tickets and stand yet.
Try contacting the Drury Inn in carmel and get a room asap.
As soon as I have more info I will post up.

do wives or partners or bff's count as a guest ? Or are they exempt from guest status since they usually live with you or whatever.

wife, gf, and friends count as a guest, as far as I know at the hospitality tent you are allowed only 1 guest. The party at Carr Moto I don't know yet.

In my experience (Ducati Day Daytona, AMA races) Non-duc riders are welcome into the Ducati areas, but have to find other parking accomidations, food, and or water that is otherwise offered to Ducati owners. (and one guest? Mario, can you varify this?) Parking, however, IS Ducati exclusive in the designated Ducati areas.

Be sure to bring proof of insurance to substantiate Ducati ownership. It will be checked.

Hope this answers your question Drfreema. Hope to see ya at these events this year!!!    [thumbsup]

ummm, this might be a silly question, but if you're riding a Ducati, and you're trying to park it, wouldn't you more than likely own it too ?

Oh you can park it. But you may not be able to get the bennies under the red canopy, if you don't show proof of valid insurance (with your name on it). They used to require only a duc key to get in under the red canopy, but apparently people were circumventing that method,  ::) so they went to this form of varification.

Who knew that the benefits of owning a Ducati were so desirable.   ;D

I think this system was chosen because people who were casually walking into the area, or just knew someone who owned a Ducati would simply use someone else's key to get their hand stamped for food, and drinks, and swag that were reserved for actual Ducati owners.

Yes one guest. That's how toaster got in the hospitality tent at MidOhio he was my guest, but had to park his Harley outside the Ducati area, same thing with my friend Matt at Daytona bike week last year.
he was my guest got the wristband to get in but had to park outside.

I got his from Vicki today,

I spoke to the speedway yesterday - they seem to think we will be ready to go very soon.  Tell your members it's completely under control and that there is no chance they won't get good seats - the place holds 400,000 people and the race will only attract 110,000.  This is Indy, a real, professional, racetrack, not Laguna, a sandpit with no seating and a volunteer staff. :-)
By the way, anybody that has bought tickets will be able to exchange them on a one time deal if they give me the name that purchased them.  This is part of what is holding us up - we need to organize the exchange program.

Rooms are already reserved I'm sure if it's just you we'll find you a place to hang the hat.
Or you could go back a few pages and follow the link to the Drury Inn in Carmel and see if you can still get a room

LATEST INFO

Dear Presidents,

We are making great progress on "Project Mugello" at Indy MotoGP and I've recently received confirmation that Ducati Grandstand tickets will be ready to go on sale in two weeks. Price including General Admission and the grandstand seating will be $125.

If you have members who have already purchased tickets from the speedway, but would now like to exchange them for seats in the Ducati Project Mugello grandstand, this will be possible as well. The entire process is all being handled through a special liaison in the group sales ticket office, so it will be simple "one stop shopping" - exchange the ticket and get the new one with one phone call.

The speedway is constructing a special grandstand for the DOC club members and Ducatisti with the emphasis on great viewing and nearness to "Ducati Island". Anybody that has ever been to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway can tell you that the size and layout of the facility produces a staggering amount of walking so efforts between the Speedway management and Ducati North America to make sure we are well taken care of have been tremendous. You may want to go exploring but you won't have to, Ducati Island, Ducati parking, and the Ducati Clubs grandstands are all coordinated together.

Finally, please let anybody that has asked for a hotel room in one of the DOC hotels that has not called and reserved it on a credit card know that the remaining rooms will be reallocated to those on the waiting list in a few days. So if they want a room, and have not made final arrangements, they will find themselves at the bottom of the waiting list if they don't get organized immediately.
More details when the ticket sales open,
Regards,
Vicki Smith
North American DOC Liaison

Guys that's it for now, I don't know anymore of what you just read so be patient till the next email.

Hi Mario,
It's all going really smoothly. Now we just need to sell 1000 seats. ;-)  I am coming to Indy for the dealer show to do a site inspection but Ducati will be there before me - they are signing off on the location and have assured me that it is really good (as did Zack from the speedway) but they want to physically see it before we release the tickets....

it's still a work in progress.  All of the info is posted in this thread as we get it, so keep an eye out here for details.  As soon as the ticketing for our special grandstand goes on sale we'll be telling people how to get tickets.  There should be plenty of seating for all Ducati owners so don't think you'll miss the boat :)

Oh, and welcome!  Congrats on the new bike [thumbsup]

BUY your tickets bitches.

Dear D.O.C. Presidents,
I am really happy to announce that Project Mugello at Indygp is officially open with the availability of special grandstand seating for the Desmo Owners Clubs. The battle you always fight with seating at a large track like Indy is that the competition is waaaay down below these giant grandstands that offer a sweeping view of tiny little machines battling it out below. We have that battle won. These seats offer prime viewing of the Turn 1 – 4 infield.  The grandstand is roughly 15 feet from Pit Out and 25-30 feet from the apex of Turn 2, which is expected to be a massive passing zone. This is serious real estate - fans will find themselves 10’ from Casey Stoner as he rides out for his sighting lap, and 30 feet from one of the top passing zones on the track, all the while having a excellent view of 4 – 5 corners all within 150 yards.

It's an extension of Ducati Island, so all the activity and Ducati Only Parking will be right there just yards from your seat. What better place to show our team spirit by re-enacting the famous Italian Mugello grandstand Ducatisti Display? At the beginning of the warm up lap everyone seated in this grandstand will be part of this world famous tradition.

Tickets are $125 which includes general admission ($50) and a seat in the Ducati "Project Mugello" grandstand ($75). To purchase tickets contact Zack Houston at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway who is our group sales agent. 317 - 492- 8411.  Ask for a seat in the "Project Mugello" grandstand. Your members must be able to verify which club they belong to and the name of the club President.  Zack can also exchange any previously purchased tickets for these seats. These tickets also include a special Project Mugello fan package that among other items includes a lap of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on your Ducati!

These 1000 premium seats are being pre-offered to Desmo Owners Clubs exclusively so please make sure that your members understand they need to buy tickets immediately. We are planning to show the world that US D.O.C. members are "super enthusiasts" and that we take our red passion seriously.  Please fill these seats with people that share our spirit and our determination to show the Ducati Corse team and Casey Stoner how much we appreciate what they did last year and how much we would love to see Ducati have another year like the one that just passed.

One final note. If you have members that still need hotels I have some still in the DOC Central Hotel immediate area. I will send out an email next week with availability and pricing.

Oh man, is this going to be fun. :-)
Vicki Smith

Since some instead to read the instuction are calling me asking I'm going to repeat some good pointers.
When you call Zack 317-492-8411 the IMS group sale agent you need to tell him :
Hi I'm calling for the project Mugello tickets for the Moto GP.
I belong to the hoosier hooligans club, yes the president's name is Mario Cavurro... I need __ ticket(s)
Tickets will be mailed to you sometime in June. So give Zack yuor home address. Each ticket includes a lap on the track on your DUCATI, (don't show up on the Roadking or the Goldwing because they are more comfy) parking on the Ducati Island and a Ducati fan swag package. Probably the package will be given to you when you arrive at the Island.
Last I heard they are organizing seating by club sections.
John from VivaDucati has nothing to do with this project. He's doing a $1,500.00 for the weekend RedBull VIP package thing..nice but whatever.
You must ride in on a DUCATI to park in the Ducati Island even if you have the Ducati grandstand ticket.

I just talked to Vicki:
This is what she told me the Lap ride she's pushing for, is a Ducati ownres/riders only, however due to the fact that this is the first year at Indy for the Moto GP riders they will get extra practice time.
This means that the lap ride would be offered whenever the schedule allows for it and to everyone.
We are 7 months away from the event things are subject to change and will change.
Parking in the Ducati Island remains a Ducati owner/rider privilege.

Bring RED keys??
for what ??

No just your regular key, registration and DOC card. It used to be that you just needed your key to gain access to the hospitality tent, but people were abusing that privilege by giving a key to non Ducati owners to get in.  At the hospitality tent Ducati provides breakfast, lunch and water during the day to Ducati owners.  So it makes sense that they still want to provide that, but without getting scammed.
So now to get in just the key is not enough. You can still ride in and park your Duc but also have your registration and proof of insurance or DOC card with you to get in the tent.
As far as I know you are still allowed one guest to the tent. No parking unless he/she rides a Duc but then he/she would not need to be your guest.... Capisci?
Everyone when buying a new Ducati receives a DOC card, if you bought used then the insurance card comes into play. You still need the key and registration as well.

Update to some legitimate questions.

Vicki can non Ducati owners purchase a Mugello grand stand ticket? It seems that everyone has a friend or family member who is interested but they own other brand name bikes or none at all.  I understand that the Ducati Island parking remains a Ducati owners only perk?

Mario:
Yes but the person that brings them needs to make sure that they understand they are in the Ducati Grandstand - they are expected to wear red, help with the Mugello sign and be part of the red spirit.  There is a parking pass in the packet for non-Ducati bikes. We all have friends that don't ride Ducati's. Lat's show them the error of their ways. :-)
Vicki

Hope this clarify and answers some of your questions.

When you register your bike with Ducati (usually for warranty purposes on a new bike) they put your in their system as the owner of that vin.  They send you a card with your name and the vin of your bike.  I THINK you can get one from a used bike but you have to fax them a copy of the registration for the bike with your name on it after you register your used bike

For as long you can prove that you own a Ducati with more than a key you'll be fine.
2006 Mid-Ohio I only had to show my key.
2007 Daytona bike week I had to show my key and DOC card.
2007 Road America key and registration.
2007 Mid-Ohio key registration and insurance.

I'll walk my way into the pits again by wearing an official Collar shirt and speaking only Italian to those that try to stop me . Just like at mid-Ohio :L  While I was looking around in the Ducati pits on race day, one guy asked me: "I'm sorry but who are you?" I said in Italian I'm your boss from Italy. He dissapeared and left me and Bryan alone. Too bad I could not fool Gabriele the track engineer (he was a prick) ended up kicking me out and to the side. We still hung around in the pits all day and I almost started a fight between Ben Bostrom and the Suzuki riders [laughing]

I MIGHT be going by myself. If that is so, think the hooligans could keep me company during the race? I'll be riding the duc in since I live in Brownsburg. I MIGHT be able to house one or 2 people on my couch and I would have spots in the garage to park your ducs.

My house is full, but I have room for bikes to park in my garages overnight. If you're not comfortable with leaving your bike at a hotel, you can park it here.

I'll also give you a ride to and from your hotel to get the bikes.

Eric

Bryan and I meet John from Viva Ducati in person yesterday, at the dealer expo in Indy.
He wanted to let everyone know that if you are interested on his Moto GP package and you do not need the hotel accommodations the price is reduced from $1695 to approximately $1200 USD.
we looked on the map at the possible locations for the grandstands for his project and our Mugello project and looks like that we'll be close to eachother and both with an equal great view of the turns.

Just to add to what Mario said, it's my understanding that if you want a paddock pass, the only way to get one is with that package.

He's got a nice, all inclusive package set up.  He has taken care of lodging, transportation to and from the track, track seating, paddock passes, food and premium drink at the track, and he mentioned working on some other evening entertainment.  If you're looking for a complete trip all put together with good things, and don't mind paying what sounds like a fair price for a "premium" experience then he might be worth looking into.  I know he still has spots available.

This is something different than what Vicki Smith had been working on, so don't expect that people using John's service will be in the same grand stand or in the same hotels as what we've been working on.

Alright alright, last question from me. Say I buy two tickets to bring a friend; however, they can only make it for one of the days. If I can get my girlfriend, or someone else, to go the other day, will they allow this? Is one ticket (apparently a 3 day pass) allowed to be shared?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think they'll give out wrist bands when you enter, good for the value of day(s) of ticket purchase, which would make it difficult (not impossible) to transfer to another person.

Hey, you're paying your way in.  It should not matter who uses the ticket.  Just show the ticket on the next day and say that the dog chewed your arm band off.

Good answers guys, anyone can use the ticket, the wristband you get at the tent is not a big deal you can get another one the next day. At the IMS the three day ticket should be enough.

I just talked to Zack from the IMS, our club has bought 20 tickets so far. The grandstand will be built between turn 1 and 2 on the infield [thumbsup] and the other clubs are buying tickets everyother day as well.
Get your tickets early and add to the list please so we'll know who's going to be there.  To get a ticket call this number 1-317-492-8411
For those needing a room call the Drury Inn project Mugello 1-317- 876-9777 there are some still available.

Whoops new question.

A ticket gets you a lap on the course (time permitting of course) but lets say I got two tickets, does that mean I can take two laps or is it one lap per person per ticket?

I'm already anxious, will be my first time on such a huge track.

One lap per person, and as a group.  The Suzuki SV riders have a similar project going on like our Mugello.

Hi, I found you guys through the DML and have some questions for you. I am looking to buy tickets through Project Mugello and I was planning on using the DML as the DOC I was a member of. Is there anything I need other than the name of the president of the DML? And, what are the requirements for Project Mugello? I know that we will have to hold up signs to spell out Ducati but is there anything else?

I also have some logistics questions for you guys.

First off, what hotels would you recommend? I see that someone mentioned the Drury Hotel. Are there any others that are still open (I know I am coming into the game late) and have some fellow Ducatisti staying there?

Also, I would be flying in as I am going to college in Nebraska and my step-dad would be flying out from Denver and riding the bikes won't really work so we will have to rent a car. What is the parking situation going to be like at the GP? Obviously we won't be able to park with all the rest of the Ducatis, but is there anything I would need to do to be able to park a car at the event? Like a pass or something?

And any other information you guys think I might need. I am very excited to get these tickets as a birthday present for my step-dad but I have to figure out all the logistics on my own so he doesn't find out what I'm doing.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Well the DML is not one of the clubs involved in the project Mugello. You have to belong either to Hoosier Hooligans, Ducsunlimited, Coastal Ducati Club, Drill, or Ducati.net to name a few of the 25 clubs involved.
Since you signed up here already, you can use us.  As for the hotels your best bet is to call the Drury asap, (we are staying there) there are few rooms still available but filling fast.
There's a parking pass in the package for non Ducati Riders but I'm not sure where you'll be able to park yet.

I just got two tickets for Project Mugello. Thanks for the information on this; I am very excited and I think my step-dad will love the present.

However, the Drury Hotel is all booked. Are there any other hotels you guys would recommend?

DUCATI GRANDSTAND

As of today, Zach Huston at the speedway is starting to assign seats and charge everyone's card.  If you want a 100% guarantee your members will be seated with their club they should call in the next couple of days.  He's going to leave some seats open next to each club for people that call in and ask to be added but the grandstand is down to just a couple hundred seats left so it's reasonable to assume this will sell out and sooner is better than later if you want to be part of this fun and historic part of the weekend.

PUTNAM DUCATI ONLY TRACK DAY SPONSORED BY DUCATI INDIANAPOLIS

Tickets are on sale for $170 for Novice, Intermediate and Advanced track time. The link is up on SportBike Track Time:

http://www.sportbiketracktime.com/cart/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=56&cat=M%29+SEPTEMBER+2008+TRACK+DATES

Scroll down until you see DUCATI ONLY Putnam Park

We are looking for STT Instructors that ride Ducati's. Please contact Mark at info@woundedduc.net if you or one of your members would like to be involved. It's important that we make this FULLY a Ducati only day and instructors on Non-Ducs does not send the message that we as Ducati Owners Club "super enthusiasts" are trying to send so lets make sure we spread the word on this.

Plans are still forming as to what else will be going on at the track this day but Demo rides are expected as is $10 charity donation touring laps behind a control rider. I also expect there will be a nice lunch offered. Details as they solidify but this day will certainly sell out well in advance so if you or your members plan to take part I strongly suggest you get signed up.

HOTELS

We still have a few left. Here are the choices of the three that have rooms in the immediate area of the DOC Central hotel, the Country Inn and Suites, where the parking lot activities will be centered. All "Ducati Hotels" are on the North side of town near the Ducati Indy dealer where the Thursday night open house will be held, so roughly 15 miles from the racetrack itself. These hotels are for Ducati owners and traveling companions only.

Holiday Inn - This hotel has a huge parking lot to accommodate trailers and has a top rated sports bar and a 50,000 square foot water park on the grounds - $179 per night for single King rooms. Booking code is Project Mugello. 317-872-9790 (They may have some doubles available but we don't have a negotiated rate for those so I think they are $229)

Red Roof Inn - This is a newly redone hotel, they still have singles and doubles. $105 per night. Speak to Vicki, the hotel manager to book. Booking code Project Mugello. 317-418-0981

I talked to Zack earlier this morning, everything is prooceding as planned and the Ducati Tribuna Mugello is almost sold out.  So for those waiting the last minute or the better deal (nto' culu) ;) you better hurry. I guess Ducati.net sold the most seats followed by the Canada DOC and a New York state based DOC. Then our humble group followed by the other midwest clubs.

;D - I can´t stop smiling, the first MotoGP race I ever go to.. wow!

I haven´t got a DOC card. I´ve got red Ducati cards that came with each Ducati that I´ve owned that have my name and ID number. Do I need to bring my vehicle documentation or anything else? I´ll be in Anderson from 4th to 23rd Sept so should be a lot of fun.

We usually use either our vehicle registration document or insurance document with our name and the bike info. I imagine you have something similar that they would accept as proof of ownership.

What's up fellas, I might be getting into this game late however my uncle and I are planning to trip up there from Dallas to catch the race, and seeing as how we are both ducati owners and lived in Indy for about 25 years each, we are pretty much hoosiers anyways (I still have the gay pink liscence), we were hoping to get seats with you hooligans.

Since the clubs out here arent involved in Project Mugello is it possible to be a Hoosier Hooligan for this event?  If so, what info do I need to tell the guy I call about tickets?  Thanks in advance!

Matt

A few months ago, when you guys started talking about this, I realized that I had never received this from Ducati and sent them an email stating this fact.  They were very apologetic, saying that they had some computer glitches and would send my welcome packet right away.  "Right away" in Italian must translate to sometime in the next few months.  I did get a plastic card and a sheet of DOC stickers and a small DOC patch about 6-8 weeks later.

When I bought my M1000 used they wanted me to fax them a copy of my registration to show that I was the current owner - apparently the previous owner had submitted that VIN and they needed my registration to change their records.

Dear Mr. Leone,

thanks for contacting us and for your documents in attachment. We have received it properly and I'm pleased to inform you that our records have been updated to reflect your current ownership of the bike VIN ZDM**************.
As a consequence, your personalised Ducati Card will be sent to your address in a few weeks (6/8 weeks are normally the technical times required).

Thank you very much for your cooperation and enjoy your Ducati riding!

i figured it was only good for original owner,

Talked to Zack today our headcount is 44 so far, we have 6 tickets left for our group.
there are only a 100 more left for the all stand. Once our tickets are gone you can still get one if there are any left from the 100 ones but your seat is not garanteed to be in our section.

Last I talked to Zack we had 6 tickets left for our club, and about a 100 for the rest of the stand.

If we ride there, is there going to be any place where we can safely put our helmets/jackets? Lockers or something? I dont want to have to carry around my helmet all day and I dont really feel that safe leaving on the stock helmet "lock"

There was a talk between Vicki and some of the staff guys, at midohio for a gear check station.  Manned by volunteers from the clubs.

A gun cable lock through thehelmet chinbar and through the frame is a good way to secure it but as Mario mentioned, there may be a gear check area.

Well, Indy Ducati is having a party on Thursday Sept 11th and I imagine that at least some of us will be attending that party.  Most people reserved rooms for the nights of Friday Sept 12th and Saturday Sept 13th so I suspect that the majority of the people will be leaving Sunday evening after everything is done.

Personally, I'd like to go down on Thursday morning and stay until Sunday night or even until Monday morning.

Hey guys,
There is a lot of chatter on the Moto GP website about Indy following this weeks testing.  If you haven't been to this site, now would be a good time to check it out.
Basically, FIM officials are happy with the work, and even smug Spies liked it.  Michelin sure dug it.

Has anyone heard where the Ducati Island will be located for the Moto GP?  I know that somewhere in this thread, someone had mentioned where the Duc grandstand will be positioned and I assume that the Island would be nearby.

The Ducati Island will be right next to the Ducati grandstand or Ducati "tribuna".  Tickets should start mailing out next week after the holiday weekend.
Rob just call Zack and make sure he has your correct address.

I talked to him a few days ago, and there are about 70 tix left before the tribuna is sold out.

Speedway, IN Considering New Motorcycle Laws for MotoGP News sources are reporting that the Speedway, Indiana town council is considering two new ordinances to curb what they consider to be potential issues with the new MotoGP crowd: Excessive noise from motorcycles, and the parking of motorcycle trailers on town streets. Talk about biting the hand that feeds... IMS is trying to bring in a new and exciting event, and the town council is aready taking in the welcome mat.  Indianapolis Loves MotoGP, Hates Noisy Motorcycles

in
    * Indianapolis, USA

"The news that MotoGP would be going to Indianapolis, bringing the return of motorcycle racing to this historic track, was met with interest and acclaim all around the world. The Brickyard at Indy is one of the world's legendary tracks, a name recognized by both race fans and non-race fans alike.

But not everyone is enthusiastic. And we're not talking about riders worrying about problems with grip or the final turn back onto the front straight. No, it seems that the town elders of Speedway, Indiana - the town which is home to the track - are afraid that the arrival of thousands of MotoGP fans on their noisy motorcycles could keep the upstanding citizens of their town awake at night.

Perhaps fearing scenes from The Wild One, the Town Council are attempting to pass a special ordinance banning "unnecessary noises made by certain motor vehicles". The ordinance is specifically aimed at motorcycles revving their engines noisily, and will give police the power to impose fines on anyone they believe are causing a nuisance by making a lot of noise with their bikes."

Project Mugello update I just got from Vicki:

Ducati Island Updates – Parking pass and Volunteer staffing process

For those of you who have not attended Laguna Seca the process for
parking on Ducati Island is unfamiliar and I want to make sure that
you and your members understand the procedure.

Ducati Island parking is “first come first serve” both to get the
passes and to use them.  Ducati Island parking passes will be
distributed free by Ducati North America staff, one per person only,
on Thursday Sept. 11th from 4 – 7 pm at Ducati Indianapolis.  This
allows a Ducati being ridden into the Speedway to park on the Island
(space is extremely limited) or immediately off Island (next to the
Island) until that is full as well, at which point overflow Ducati’s
will have to be re-directed to the tracks general motorcycle parking.
(This overflow situation may never happen, but being a first time
event no one knows for sure. Obviously the idea is to have all the
Ducati’s parked on or next to the Island. Showing up early means this
is somebody else’s problem, not yours.)

There are two exceptions to this distribution:

Exception one:  Registered DOC Presidents receive one parking pass as
a courtesy from Ducati North America.  Details on pick up location
will be posted on the DOCNA website closer to the event.

Exception two: Team Ducatisti Volunteer Staff receive a Ducati Island
parking pass (if needed) an event staff t-shirt per shift worked and a
general admin ticket/Ducati grandstand pass (if needed, 2 shifts to
qualify).  Areas available for staffing are gear check, hospitality,
parking and Superbike Concorso.  Shifts vary but are roughly 3.5
hours. Volunteers are assigned based on past experience and space
available. Prior volunteers and DOC members are given preference in
order of spots available. Contact me directly at Veloce916@aol.com to
volunteer; these spots are being filled this week.
Please have your members who are interested in volunteering provide
this information:

Do they have tickets already?
What days will they be there and available to help out?
What size t-shirts do they wear?
Are they riding a Ducati to the racetrack?
How many shifts are you available for (a shift is roughly 3.5 hours,
two shifts are required for a general admission/Project Mugello
Grandstand seat)
Have they volunteered before (I’ll probably know this already but
include it anyway)
Are they a member of an owners club and if so which one.

I appreciate your help with getting the word out on these two matters.
This is a first time event and the key to happiness here is making
sure people know the process in time to get involved. Nothing is worse
than getting somewhere and finding out something you were really
looking forward to doing isn’t available because you didn’t know a
prior planning process was involved.

Finally, don't forget that if your club has a display spot requested
on the Island that you need to schedule your staffing.  There must me
a member at the display at all times, no exceptions other than during
the MotoGP race itself.  We will also need some staffing at the DOC
Central hotel, mostly just to make sure we respect the hotel's
property and also to man any events that happen there like the bike
wash. Detail on this asap.

Regards,
Vicki

We would like to thank the council for their consideration towards the motorcycling community and hope for a successful MotoGP in September....... just got this off Abate web site

your Mugello ticket was shipped separate... I guess we haven't got them either yet.
There's a thread for the flat track race. Are you volunteering a shift?

I talked to Vicki yesterday at the track fest. She told me that the IMS big shots have moved our lap on the track for sometime Monday morning, instead of Sunday before the race.
We'll still have the red snake ride from Indy Ducati to the Ducati Island on Sunday morning. I'm pretty pissed off about it but there's nothing we can do...

Guys, I´ll probably end up driving from Anderson as it´s gonna be a hassle bringing my riding gear with me from Spain etc. and I´m not buying new gear for 1 ride (not for the moment anyway). I´ll probably be SUVíng to the race and back. Where is everyone meeting up to ride in? I´d like to at least show up with a Ducati t-shirt on at the race.

Pls let me know the timetable you guys are going by and I´ll try to be there on US and not Spanish time (ie. late).

Can´t wait for this trip, it´s been since 1993 that I was last in Indiana.. and 1989 since I last visited the Brickyard!

The red snake ride leaves from Indy Ducati at 0730 hrs.  For those of you that bought project Mugello tickets, Ducati will be giving you a red grandstand Ducati t-shirt, and a cheap looking red Ducati Corse ball cap. The goal is to have a huge red area at the track with all the Ducatisti wearing a red shirt and hat.
The problem IS that the T-shirts given away are in sizes Italian L and XL. Which means they are on the small side. I wear an American L and the Italian XL I tried on was a tight fit on me. So if you wear anything bigger than an American L plan on bringing your own red t-shirt.

The police in Italy encourages it, and sometime they wheelie their police bikes. Here they would probably kick you off the ride and issue a citation... :(

We have a pretty big crew coming down.  I will be down Wednesday night.  Mario call me to get together during the event.

Load in on Ducati Island for clubs is :

Thurs.ONLY 7:30 - 9am or  4 - 6 pm. These times are strict and the
speedway is adamant there is no flexibility. Miss this window and you
will have to walk a long way carrying a lot of stuff! All cars/trucks
must be off the island by 9am if you are taking the early am load in
option.
Sorry guys, these are the speedway guidelines and
they have already relaxed the rules to help us so this is all there
is, no flexibility left.

Al, Kevin, this means we'll have to take our stuff to the speedway, before we hit Ducati Indianapolis we'll only have two chairs and a table and whatever swag for sale. Maybe we can walk that stuff over on Friday morning...

Project Mugello tickets holders will be getting a grandstand package, given out Saturday night before the race at the DOC cental hotel. The Package includes a red corse hat, and a large red Grandstand T-shirt. and a Ducati lanyard.
*WARNING* If you wear an American size L t-shirt the one provided by Ducati could be a thight fit. They run a bit smaller in Italy, and the packages contains a size "L" Italian. Plan on bringing your own red T-shirt if the fit is questionable.
Food you are on your own, see you there.

My stay for the evenings that weekend just cancelled on me. I need to stop relying on friends.

So.... what are my options as far as hotels? What hotels are booked, and where are most of you planning on staying? I'd read through the thread, but I can't skim through 18 pages in the 5 minutes before I leave for class.

Latest:

Thurs - 11-7 Open House party at Ducati Indy
Thurs - People start arriving at DOC main hotel which should be hopping all
weekend - Country Inn and Suites Indy North.  All 6 DOC hotels are in this
immediate area as is the dealer - you want to hear the music of the Ducati,
I think the North end of town will be playing it all day long.
Friday - Ducati Island opens 8:30 am (Parking opens at 7am) This includes
gear check, hospitality, a Superbike Concorso display, Ducati Owners Clubs
area, Ducati grandstands, a new bike display, clothing vendor, fashion show
area and Ducati related vendors. It's open until Sunday at 6pm
Friday night - George's dinner at the DOC hotel.  6pm.  If you missed
signing up for this bring a pizza and a 6 pack, it's picnic style seating so
anybody can join the fun, you just can't get to the food and drinks. Clubs
are setting up pop ups in the parking lot and there should be more tables
and chairs out there.  The parking lot is Ducati only parking all weekend,
all cars are banished so for three days it's a perfect world. :-)
Sat night is an open night but still expected to be busy at the hotel.  It's
the night of the flat track so I guess some people will do that and rejoin
the parking lot party afterwards. There is also some stuff downtown on main
street but all brands rather than Ducaticentric.
Sun am there is a RED SNAKE Ducati group ride in from Ducati Indy - be there
at 7 am for a 7:30 start to the track. This is expected to be a couple
hundred minimum bikes. If you have not had the chance to do this in Italy,
trust me, it's a real grin inducer.
Sunday- More Ducati Island, LOTS going on here including the Project Mugello
card stunt on the warm up lap.  All people in the Ducati grandstand will be
given very cool special red shirts and hats flown in from Italy.  (My fav
shirt by far, wait till you see them, they look like rock concert shirts
with all the world race grandstands listed with super graphics and tri color
bands on the sleeves AND they even have large sizes!) ALL PEOPLE MUST BE IN
THE SEATS BY 30 MINUTES BEFORE THE WARM UP LAP!!!!!
Mon - Ducati Only Track day at Putnam Park with special guest Paul Smart and
Cook Neilson.

That works right? :-)

Vicki

If you have any problems I can be reached at 954-673-0877 or call Fred Jennings at 870-420-3909

Ducati Island is just inside GATE 2 by the museum.  Please report to Fred Jennings who will be set up in GEAR CHECK for check in and to confirm your instructions and pick up your special Ducati Puma Indy staff shirt. :-)
If you have Project Mugello Grandstand seating tickets please remember to return to your seats by 2:25pm on Sunday for the Project Mugello Ducati tribute card stunt.

Indy Ducati open house reminder:

Ducati Indy, (which is located about 2 minutes from the DOC Central
hotel) is having an open house on Thursday and starting at 1pm they
will be serving a pulled pork catered lunch (free) to anybody that
stops by. This is the same place you need to go to get the Ducati
Island parking passes so stopping by early will score you a free lunch
and I hear good deals on t-shirts as well.

FYI - Ducati.net and the DOC's nationwide are really lucky to have a
choice bunch of dealers that support us when we call for help, and I'd
like everybody to know, you can put Ducati Indy solidly on that list.
Ducati Indy was the first on board to help promote Project Mugello,
they helped me find the DOC hotel, put down the $$$ to make the track
day happen and in every way have been right there with thier hand up
if I have needed anything to make this project as good as we could
concieve it.  They are great guys, they totally get it and we all owe
owner Bill Carr a big thank you for his unfailing support so please
let him know if you see him that it's really appreciated.

I found that you can use Barbesol shaving cream for everything...washing your hair, brushing your teeth, doing some laundry, lubricant, burn ointment, and yes, even shaving.  So one tube of that stuff, a tooth brush and razor, along with the two pair of underwear you will need for four days and you are set.
I noticed in Europe that everyone just wears their leathers ALL of the time, so they only need about three tee shirts and three pair of skivies along with the above mentioned stuff and they can get by indefinitly.  You ain't single, so you won't need to pack condoms.  I'm sure someone is bringing a Sharpie.

Ha, we use Barbesol at my work as a leather conditioner and carpet cleaner for our cars. It's good stuff

Hi, I just dropped in as a visitor. Never been to the Indy Speedway. Meeting my son from TX in your fair city for the Moto GP event. He rides a ST4S, I ride a more sedate BMW touring rig. He has hooked us up with Mugello Project grandstand seats and hotel accomodations. He has volunteered us to do some sort of track or other duty station for a few hours. I am very excited. A question though. Looking at the official track map on the Indy site I can not tell where this grandstand is or our vantage point of the track. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks much

Soooo.... my hotel is in Zionsville. I'm only staying for Saturday night, and I'm really worried about taking the bike there and leaving it out all night. Supposed to rain, right? What's everyone's thoughts on this? Is anything going to be covered?

I don't think there will  be cover for our bikes, but bikes can be chained together next to our trailers.

Last minute set of tickets FOR SALE!
My wife is leaving for Thailand on Tuesday, so has to work.  My son was going to use her tix, but looking at a wet ride down from NY, decided to be a pussy.  So I have one extra set of Mugello tix for sale.  Make a reasonable offer.  Buyer can have the two track lap passes too.  I'm leaving Thursday morning for Indy, staying at Country Inn, cell #502-418-5459.  Don't forget the red shirt.

Dude, you better get a move on if you are going to be there at 1:00 like you said.
Anyone wanna make a bet that Mario doesn't get to Indy Ducati before 3:00pm this afternoon?  I might even take smaller denomination bets for 4 and 5 o'clock this afternoon.

Must of us are leaving on Thursday morning and early afternoon. One member Mike "ToasterTank" is leaving Sunday morning along with another friend and future Ducati owner/club member. They are leaving from South Bend. How far North are you talking? Maybe you can link with them.

WOW i got really busy this week and havent had time to check up on this tread, i would be leaving from fort fun but i am sure it is too late for plans now, beside i am probably going to drive and not ride, no rain gear and 2.5 hours is a long ride is the rain.

I second that, though i have to say the Hoosier Hooligan girls were the best site at the event!!! I am just glad i finally dryed out and my voice is comming back after Marrio and the one Hooligan girl (at least i think it was mario) wanted me yelling "RE-START"!

Side note, next time i am going to spend as many days as i can instead of just race day!

And then there was the ride home in 60mph winds and driving rain.  Once the rain died down a bit, I could hit 90+ and the bike stabilized in the wind.  I came home to a yard full of big limbs, no electricity (meaning I don't have the race DVR'ed, can anyone burn me a DVD?), and one freaked out wife.  We are not going to have electricity for up to one week, so I'm posting from work.  I'll get photos up once we have power.
I think IMS is convinced now that MotoGP is a worth while undertaking.
Great seeing all of you guys.  Hope to see some of you again this coming weekend in Noblesville.

I lucked out and came home today to find that I have electricity!  Over 365,000 folks in Louisville did without last night and LG&E said it might be as long as two weeks before everyone is back in business.  So, with power, I've posted up some of the photos.  I even posted up one of what I found in my back yard upon my return, following that rather hair-raising ride home through incredible winds and rain.  I read in the Indy Star this morning that they had about 92K in attendance yesterday and about 175K over the three days.  MotoGP website confirmed that Hayden is leaving Honda and probably swinging over to our side.  Troy had the best quote though, about the Arai helmet worker that said "I'll just say that I've seen Nicky's helmet for next year" when asked if he thought Hayden is going to ride for Ducati.  Nice to live somewhere where we can witness this kind of history.  Man, I had a GREAT time.

Bryan, If you are too busy with work/school, I have another offer from Hedgehog Bob to burn me a copy of the television coverage.  But if you do have time...

This was the article on the IndyStar after Dale and I were interviewed.
I would like to meet the editor.... No club names mentioned and I guess Dale and I gave almost the same answers.  He was interviewed before me. They also told me that they were coming to the IMS or Indy Ducati to take some group photos and never did.
I spoke with Francesca a couple of days ago, she said that next year she will come in person to cover the story.
At least Bob and Kurt made the paper in incognito...
