I took delivery of red 696 today. The bike exceeds all expectations!

I am a new rider. I completed the MSF course in March and have been riding a a friend's Ninja 250 to develop my skills while waiting for the 696. I put about 25 miles on the 696 this evening. First impression is that 696 is just plain fun to ride. Grin

I will post further ride reports after I get some more miles. Termi slip ons sound awesome! Grin

Special thanks to the guys at Ducati Indy!

Congrats on the new bike!  I'd like to see one in person.  It's an interesting combination of Supersport (rear suspension) and Superbike (front suspension) along with a new frame and other bits.

Looks great!  That's a pretty sweet looking jacket too.

I've gotta say the more I see it the more I like the new Monster.

I might have to swindle a test ride on one when I go pick up my GT Cheesy

Congrats man  I love mine to. I can't wait till the tail kit becomes available. Do you still have the DB killers in the cans or is it in ear kiler mode? I'm considering putting mine back in as it is almost too loud. How about them brakes?
Grubby, you just don't like this bike do you?

While talking to Ducati museum curator, Livio Lodi, at the Ducati Experience pavilion during the Isle of Man TT last week, he asked what I thought of the new 696.  Being a 695 owner and leaning to the retro look, I admitted that I didn't like it.  But he pointed out that it was a design decision to modernize the Monsters and give them a more Mercedes Benz type look.  The Bologna guys are very passionate about this bike and pleased with their design.  There are aspects of the design I do like and i guess it will grow on me.
At any rate, it's still a Duc, so i know you are going to dig it.  Once you go quack, you'll never go back!
Enjoy!

Might as well say it.  I understand the concept behind the design change. And to a certain degree, the monster has looked exactly the same (within reason) for the past 14 years. To me, that's the reason everybody buys one. And then they go and totally change it ? I like the fact it's a Ducati and they're getting that power for dicplacement, but It's just not my cup-o-tea.

Fair enough. The fact that it is a little more modern is the reason I liked it. It still has the V twin Duc attitude though.

Still have the DB killers. Chief of police lives three houses down. Not sure I could get away with taking them off Grin

Brakes are great!

Looking forward to a lot of riding this weekend!

I really like the new bike, in fact I had one ordered. I think that Ducati is on the right track now. I think that they made too much of a jump into the future with the "hypo-tard". So now they are taking baby steps. The 696 has from the factory alot tof the things ducati owners have been doing to their bikes for years as "home" modifications ie... lowerd headlight. integrated turnsignals, raised exhaust. I think the headlight assy. and taillight assy would look kick ass on my S2R 1000. That being said I would not have liked the size/power for some one my size. But over all for the price it is an awesome entry level bike and I would welcome one in my driveway any time(so long as I can take it for a ride)

Ummm, I was gonna say I fucking hate it, hate the frame, the swingarm, the "gas tank" and the stupid front cylinder header going up the right side of the motor, but no, I was being nice. It IS a nice bike, but it's not for me.
