Well it was justified. It was the last AMA race for the Ducati Factory team in 2006, and the Suzuki team wanted to boycot the race. I was hanging out in the pits with the team and Bryan. So Beth and I wanted to start some shit with the Suzuki riders . Better judgement prevaled and we had a race!

Did I ever tell you guys when Ben Bostrom and I almost started a fist fight with the Suzuki riders @ MidOhio..

Was thinking the same thing on both counts, Scout. I am a VR fanboy to the core but one race don't mean the boss is back. And Dovi and Cal brawling would be AWESOME!

I bet sometime this year Dovi and Crutchlow get into a fight!  I love watching those two race.

i guess we will have to start wishing for rain on race days. She sure looks good in the rain ( Rossi did too ). Hopefully this is beginning of a good relationship.

I'm thinking that I would like to get either a M1100 Evo (red) or the new SF848 (yellow) this spring.  I have a couple years of riding under my belt and don't want anything too crazy.  Currently ride a Kawi Ninja 650r.  Any thoughts as to which one would be best?  I have test ridden a 2009 M1100 several times a year ago and loved it.  Most of my riding is shorter distances, but I do occasionally do some several hundred mile trips from time to time.

For me, it would be M1100 all the way... No water cooling claptrap to deal with, more snap, less aggressive riding position, lower maintenance costs, etc, etc.  Ditch the Diavel-inspired pipe for the earlier semi-undertail aftermarket version of your choice and enjoy.

You need to ride the streetfighter before you make up your mind...
Also a used S4Rs with all the trimming and classic style would be awesome too.  Just saying

I agree about waiting to ride the SF848.  It's supposed to be much more tame than it's big brother.  I like the idea of the safety pack on the monster.  I don't think I would go wrong with either.  The last M1100 I rode made me smile....it was shaking and snorting with personality...like it didn't want you on its back.  A friend of mine also rode it.  He wasn't used to the Brembo brakes and grabbed a handful on front brake pulling into the lot at Lifecycle.  Needless to say, his "gentlemen's area" got alittle abuse from the tank.  Pretty funny, actually.

I'm sorry but the new monster look has not grown on me yet.  I still prefer the old one. I tested the streetfighter 1098 before.  I liked my S4Rs better

Its something about the round headlight and the same look since 1993, CLASSIC!  I have never ridden a 1098 SF but I look forward to it one day.

I'm diggin on the 1098...  I have been on it for 400 mile days, but due to work and kids this year did not do a multi-day trip yet.  With the snow fall today, looks like 2012 will be the 9,000 mile year.

I would say, I'm very happy with the purchase.  Power, handling and ergos fit me well.  (I'm 5'8")

I like my 696, first bike ever.  However, if I would havehad more dough I would have gone the streetfighter route or maybe a M1100.  I think I would like a bit more power, but everyone said the 696 is the best beginner bike so I was easily talked into it.  It is nice though.

Dave, not rippin on you, but....

The M696 isn't just a great beginner bike, it's a great bike, period

More power... For what?  So you can get more tickets faster?  Pay higher insurance?  Burn more fuel?  Pay a finance company more interest?

Use the money you save NOT buying an 1100 and buy tires, brake pads, track days, luggage, a tent, and ride the damn wheels off that 696!  I packed my wife's M750 up and rode it 2300 miles in a week, up, down, and sideways in the Smoky Mountains, on and off pavement, ground up a pair of toe sliders, and never once wished for more power.

Always more fun to ride a slower bike fast than riding a fast bike slow.

Just sayin.... Grin Grin Grin

That is a great list of points.  Noted.

I am sure there are several Freudian layers burried in some of what I said.   Grin

Cheers!

Instead of having one real exensive bike why not have two modestly priced bikes.  You could pick up an '04 MTS 1000 and use that for your excursions and keep the monster for the daily driver.  Or the other route of getting an old 748 for the your "spirited" days and keep the monster for its plush ride... Lots of options.  The only problem with two bikes is the maintenance $$.  The choice is yours but there are a lot of options.
