Well it was justified. It was the last AMA race for the Ducati Factory team in 2006, and the Suzuki team wanted to boycot the race. I was hanging out in the pits with the team and Bryan. So Beth and I wanted to start some shit with the Suzuki riders . Better judgement prevaled and we had a race!

I would throw down with a Boz Bros. at my back..  I mean if it was justified!

Did I ever tell you guys when Ben Bostrom and I almost started a fist fight with the Suzuki riders @ MidOhio..

Was thinking the same thing on both counts, Scout. I am a VR fanboy to the core but one race don't mean the boss is back. And Dovi and Cal brawling would be AWESOME!
I bet sometime this year Dovi and Crutchlow get into a fight!  I love watching those two race.

i guess we will have to start wishing for rain on race days. She sure looks good in the rain ( Rossi did too ). Hopefully this is beginning of a good relationship.

A box of rain will ease the pain...

« on: March 20, 2008, 04:26:51 PM »

So I had to get away from Bike Week... the Troy and Mike had headed down to Cape Coral while I stayed home to take care of my wife who was down with a major migraine so I stuck around to pick the kids up from school etc. The next day she was fine so I decided to try out a route that I had layed out through the Ocala National Forest area... while Troy and Mike were heading back from Coral Springs (BTW, the pic below was taken earlier in the week, I always wear my tourmaster gear and full face helmet when I go long distances.)

I headed up out of Geneva, around the south side of Sanford and out into the country...

The ride was very Midwest like where you had to ride alot of straight roads to get to the twisties... although I found out later that I had missed a 30 mile stretch of curvy roads by just a little bit. I plan on going back to find that one.

After spending quite a bit of time on SR19 behind a semi, I decided to detour off on to the dirt roads in the national forest area which was really cool...

The roads were good enough that I could maintain about 50 - 60 for the most part...

Till I hit a dusty wash with a run-off going across it. I was able to pull the front end up but slammed the backend pretty hard breaking the exhaust clamp and bending the foot peg down a bit. It seemed like everything was going to hold together OK... the right side clamp was still OK and the center stand was supporting the left, so I kept on...

I alternated between pavement and dirt untill I reached this ferry crossing.

I waited there for about a half hour switching my headlight on and off trying to get somebodies attention on the other side of the river, using my telephoto lense to look up and down the bank for signs of activity. Just when I was about to give up, this guy came out of nowhere... he kind of surprised me because the whole contraption blended into the background.

We loaded up, I gave him five bucks and we were off...

Another mile or so of dirt road then back on the pavement. I rode through some really impoverished areas where kids would run out and wave as I went by and I stopped in here for a break and a pop... the owner was a great guy. He was really interested in my google maps that I had printed out and had a lot of suggestion for me. I felt like I was riding through Mexico at times.

Then it was back to Daytona... all in all it was about 5-6 hours of riding, met some cool people and have another story to tell.

Thanks for looking,
Claude

There's bears in Florida?

That looks like a really fun day.

It was 72 degrees and sunny here yesterday, and I spent the whole day moving heavy objects.  Sad

Nice bike and well documented trip.  Yes the ferry man does exist.  Mario and I are planning a 1500 mile iron butt ride here soon.  All the way around lake michigan.  Well kepp ya posted.
