Title: the Sunday ride thread Post by: screaminss on June 15, 2007, 05:06:43 PM Bryan, could you make this a sticky? Thanks Bro
This Sunday, June 17 we are planning the ride up to Gingerman Raceway, to spectate at a STT trackday. We are meeting up at Doug's house @ 9:30 am and will be leaving at 10:00am promptly. I know Troy and Co. will be meeting us up there, then maybe riding back with us. There will be some folks there from my other Ducati club, Ducs Unlimited, out of the Detroit area participating in this event, so lets try to make a good show of Indiana Ducatisti. Also this is a good opportunity for anyone who's never participated in a trackday to see how it all works, and eventually get the bug to perhaps participate in these events in the future. If anyone needs directions to Doug's place, feel free to contact me @ 574.876.7959 Title: Re: the Sunday ride thread Post by: screaminss on June 19, 2007, 05:14:43 PM Had a good ride Sunday, even if it was a solo trip. Saw some old friends from Ducs Unlimited and a couple from the michigan Desmo club (Josh, Scott and another guy , I forget his name)
Josh was running in intermediate up until after the lunch break, then was approached by one of the track coaches and was told he should bump up to advanced. Well, first session in advanced that was delayed by an accident in T3 Josh was running pretty good, steadily becomming faster as the session went on, getting down into the 1:34's. That was until T4 reared its ugly head. He took a fairly nasty lowside, but got right up and was unhurt. His Leathers did their job, not even a seam blown out. The bike on the other hand, not such a pretty site. Left side plastics rashed and broken in a couple of places. Rear brake lever ripped off as well as his carbon fiber clutch cover torn of. He lost a three springs and broke tabs off of the clutch hub, as you can imagine. Lost the right rearstand spool, and broke the right rearset completely off. Left not too long after, making sure he was okay and surveying the damage. Found myself at Barney's in St. Joe, sipping a couple of adult beverages and watching pretty bikini clad women comming in off the Lake from their boats. Oh the misery. Shot down to Al's place better known as the Hooligan Clubhouse (west), Sipped a couple of Steigl's then headed for home. total miles=180 Title: Re: the Sunday ride thread Post by: sTD on June 20, 2007, 09:57:26 AM Man that sucks for Josh :'( Hopefully he didn't bend the input shaft ($$$). BTDT, and got lucky enough not to bend the shaft, which is why I run a full cover on the race bike now.
If he broke the rearset tab off the frame, I can weld it back up for him. Did he get punted by a racer into T4? Anyone who's raced there knows you can't give up the inside of T4 or you're screwed into T5. Basically you drift out the exit of T3, put your knee over the curb in T4, pin it at the apex, and try to hold the inside/middle line into T5, every lap. If you do the track-day rider thing and move just a little right coming out of T3, racers will try to get inside entering T4. Title: Re: the Sunday ride thread Post by: screaminss on June 20, 2007, 04:39:13 PM I don't know what damage he found after he got it home, usually there is more damage than at first or second glance. Hopefully the carbon cover cusioned the blow, enough to where the input shaft isn't destroyed. after all, it wasnt a real hard falll, kinda slow and steady, if that makes any sense.
I would be curious to know how he is doing (post crash bumps, bruises and or soreness) If any one has his contact info (phone, email etc.) and knows any more please post up. Title: Re: the Sunday ride thread Post by: BryanS on June 21, 2007, 12:42:49 AM I found a business card that Josh gave me when we rode with them. Here's all the info from it:

Title: Re: the Sunday ride thread Post by: Grifo on June 21, 2007, 12:06:09 PM Ok I'll be on Sunday the 24th, so I can tag along for a ride if you guys are planning one.
Title: Re: the Sunday ride thread Post by: Grifo on June 24, 2007, 09:50:06 PM Cool ride today guys minus the unforunate event... Ryan, Al's nephew went down on some gravel today. Road rash, pain and a trip to the ER. Ryan's friend who was following behind laid his bike down to avoid running over Ryan. He suffered some road rash as well but litterally walked away.
hopefully Al will post an update on Ryan's condition soon. A speedy recovery to Ryan. We rode to South Haven , St. Joseph had lunch, then we headed to the West clubhouse to watch the AMA race and Moto GP. Stoner kicked some major ASS :o [thumbsup] [twofinger] (http://www.hoosierhooligans.org/gallery/albums/userpics/normal_hoosier_hooligans_017_%28Large%29.jpg) Title: Re: the Sunday ride thread Post by: sTD on June 25, 2007, 06:31:22 AM That sucks for Ryan and his friend. At least everybody walked away with all their fingers and toes.
I'll hold a dirt riding clinic for everyone whose interested ;D PS: Mario, I'm gonna b*tch slap you for talking about the MotoGP race - I DVR'd it and haven't watched it yet!!!! :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( Title: Re: the Sunday ride thread Post by: crazyducdude on June 25, 2007, 07:17:07 AM I second the bitch slap!!!! :o :'(
Title: Re: the Sunday ride thread Post by: Rudge on June 25, 2007, 08:17:34 AM Hey everybody Ryan is fine nothing broke just some bad bruises and road rash. I think the next time he will have a leather jacket and gloves. For those who saw his helmet it shows the importance of those things. As all the veterans know seat time makes all the difference.
Title: Re: the Sunday ride thread Post by: Grifo on June 25, 2007, 12:20:47 PM Good to hear that he's fine Al [thumbsup]
Troy, Mike blow me [twofinger] Title: Re: the Sunday ride thread Post by: ToasterTank on July 04, 2007, 01:42:18 PM [thumbsup] When you can walk away it's all good. Yesterday a goldwing wacked the back of a car. Broken leg. Ouch!

Title: Re: the Sunday ride thread Post by: screaminss on July 07, 2007, 09:51:53 PM That's not a bad idea, I guess it would be a later ride which would'nt be all bad, considering the temps expected, but that sounds cool to me. Get ahold of either Troy or Bryan and let one of them know to keep an eye on their wives cause we're commin to town >:)
Title: Re: the Sunday ride thread Post by: Grifo on July 08, 2007, 12:45:23 PM That's not a bad idea, I guess it would be a later ride which would'nt be all bad, considering the temps expected, but that sounds cool to me. Title: Re: the Sunday ride thread Post by: Rudge on September 14, 2007, 01:26:54 PM Breakfast ride to the American Grill in LaPorte Sunday morning. Meeting up with some of the guys from Valpo at 9:00 LaPorte time. Kevin, Doug and I will be meeting at my place around 8:30 fast time. A ride to Valpo is likely after we eat. [thumbsup]
Title: Re: the Sunday ride thread Post by: screaminss on September 16, 2007, 07:41:42 PM It was a great day for a ride today. Al and I met the Valpo guys for breakfast then off to their neck of the woods to check out a "couple" of vintage bikes.
First, at Bob's place we saw tons of vintage Ducs including a prestine Mike Hailwood Mille Replica. And also a beautiful Royal Enfield. Then it was off to Nick's house where he was proud to show us his Yamaha collection, and his project Cobra car. Finally we arrived at Bill's place where we were treated to some of his fine machinery. Bill and his wife were awsome hosts by feeding and "watering" us. What a cool trip we had with some really kickass guys. So guys, if your lurking, Thank You ! :L Title: Re: the Sunday ride thread Post by: Grifo on September 16, 2007, 08:54:06 PM Where are the pics for those of us working?

Matt is currently at Mid-Ohio doing whatever they do overthere I'll try to get more details on Monday. If I'll get the day off I would like to go anyone else? Title: Re: the Sunday ride thread Post by: screaminss on June 07, 2008, 01:49:22 PM Okay here's the deal on breakfast. Due to the small number of folks who have listed names, I made the decision to call Werner, telling him not to bother making any special arriangements to open for breakfast for us. He said he would be there anyways, so he would make something up for anyone who wanted.
Otherwise, Ralph's bakery is next door for anyone who wants a cup off coffeee and a doughnut. BTW 1000hrs is still the meetup time Title: Re: the Sunday ride thread Post by: sTD on June 08, 2008, 10:20:45 AM Love to have gone, but just got home from RA at 0300 this morning!

Title: Re: the Sunday ride thread Post by: Hedgehog on June 08, 2008, 03:10:46 PM All sucessful ride. We all beat the storm and had a great ride throught and through. I was worried about you four that broke off from us, when Kevin and Doug(?) held my hand till I was near home. Glad you all beat it in! I turned on the TV at about 2:45 and they were issuing a Tornado Warning for Cass and Berrien counties. Then the wind came up and it started pissing down rain. Nasty stuff to be in! This was an excellent adventure guys! Thanks to everyone for making me feel welcome. I got a kick out of the guy on the Monster that gave all the Ducks a triple-take after he turned in front of us. :) The waitress was cute, but, unfortunately, I've got kids older than her; which kinda ruins the whole thing. :( My bike ran well, and the new Dunlop Roadsmarts seem to be an even better tire than the D207s I'm used to. My confidence came rushing back, and I had fun in the few corners on the trip. I'd post the numbers from my Bike Computer, but I hear that a certain LEO monitors this board. :L Title: Re: the Sunday ride thread Post by: BryanS on June 08, 2008, 05:09:18 PM That certain LEO has been stopped twice within an hour of each other for exceeding 100mph and on another occassion even got a speeding ticket, even after he was recognized as a cop.... Bike is confiscated, as well. :o Title: Re: the Sunday ride thread Post by: ducatidoug on June 08, 2008, 05:32:05 PM glad to hear you had a good time Bob. good to meet you to. we will see you thur. [laughing] [twofinger] Title: Re: the Sunday ride thread Post by: Desmocrat on October 14, 2008, 10:13:51 PM We went over to the mountains of eastern Kentucky, hit some kick ass roads and then after several hundred miles, spent the rest of the day chasing the ambulance and hanging out in the emergency room at Morehead hospital. The girl in the group had a run it with a guard rail. Bruised her up pretty much, but nothing broken other than ego and bike. She's been out already though, scrambling to find parts to get it back on the road. Still, it was a great ride!

I headed up to northern Michigan (Baldwin area) and rode the DNR trails up there. We had 5 KTMs and 3 Kaws and got to ride Little Manistee, Tin Cup and Lincoln Hills. I wish our crappy state had a trail system like they do up there, it was a blast. Perfect weather up there and ended up with close to 100 miles of nice, tight trails. Looks like things are getting cooler from now on though :'(

Jerry the owner even let us set up camp in the bar and watch the MotoGP and WSBK races on the flat panels, he was going to roll down the 15 foot HD projector for us until troy and Mario decided they wanted to chill out in front of the bar (for quick refillage of beer, naturally).

We rode around the river back roads through Centerville and onto Three Rivers then North to the Zoo. We then went North of there and started heading towards the lake. The gang. Title: Re: the Sunday ride thread Post by: ToasterTank on September 14, 2009, 05:12:43 PM We then filled up with gas and came up with a game plan for the way home. Left South Haven and went south on 140 where Dan got on 94 to wards Chicago. We continued on until we came to the split. STD's went to Dowagiac we went to wards Niles and onto home. For Us 183.3 miles total. I'm sure Troy and Dan much more. We had fun and would like to go back when the bridge is open. We also were told of a cemetery that made Ripley's Believe it or not where a bunch of roads go through it to the east. Sounds like another adventure.

Title: Re: the Sunday ride thread Post by: Desmocrat on October 02, 2009, 09:43:23 PM You're welcome to come down and ride the area east of Louisville with us on Sunday, but we meet pretty early (8:30 or so). If you want to ride down Saturday and be sent to bed after the bourbon, we can accomodate that plan as well. Good group of riders...pace is usually spirited, but can have a splinter cell of tourist.

Title: Re: the Sunday ride thread Post by: Daren on May 30, 2010, 08:07:17 PM Good ride today, good to meet Dan from Valpo, but here is the lessons we learned today by attending the Valpo Bike show.
1. It is a Harley "lovefest" and "chrome orgy" 2. There are no parts or vendors there that carry anything that will make a bike faster or safer 3. Handle bar tassels and Bandannas must match 4. Dr. Wooding is a "closet" Harley Guy 5. They at least let chicks on their own bikes in for free (Lucky Jeanne) 6. If you own a Harley or sim, you must weigh way too much and wear way too little 7. Not sure who was going to be in the "bikini contest" but we were not going to stick around to find out 8. Way too many dudes on crutches and "bike lawyers" present 9. And lastly.....If Daren says "hey I heard they have this really cool bike show I just heard about" someone punch me in the face. Lots of nice "racks" at the tilted kilt (not too many bikes tho) :L Title: Re: the Sunday ride thread Post by: screaminss on May 30, 2010, 09:16:07 PM Nah, I'd never punch you in the face, but I might give ya a swift kick to the nuts [twofinger]
