Great write up. It is awesome that you took the time to get some good pics along the way. The ride out to CO. sucks but once you see those mountains it is worth it. I just wish I new that you were going to be out there. I was out at my house in Breckenridge for from the 1st to the 15th. There are some great rides out here and I tried to get the 996 out just about every day. most of the rides were by myself would have been great to show you around and have a beer at Breckenridge Brewing Co. The whole trip looked great I have always wanted to ride the great redwoods. Also one of my good friends lives out in Lake Tahoe in Incline Village and rides a Monster. In the future I think club members should post up plans for big trips like this before they leave. You never know who you might be able to meet up with along the way. BTW I Road Runner Magazine pays $500 for articles with good photos.

Funny - I've stayed in Breckenridge for the past 5 years during bike trips. We stay at the Great Divide Lodge. I think I've been on every freakin' road in Colorado at least once, that's why we decided to go someplace else this year. I like Donwstairs at Eric's for chow - fun place and it's always crowded.

I'll be heading back to Breck for a week in August with the wife. She'll fly out and I'll ride the ST out and meet her there.

I suscribe to RoadRunner - will look into it. I'd be happy to take $500 of their money!

I think i did post up about heading out there, but it was probabaly around January when I did it. I'll have to look.

I just checked on the RoadRunner submissions; it's $50 - not $500 - for an article of 1,000 words. Still, better than nothing.

I'll need to polish up my writing skills and see if I can put together 1,000 words that are coherent and interesting.

Downstairs @ Eric's is some great pizza and calzones. not to mention fun to get some pinball action. Also a must stop for breakfast is Daylight Donuts. I am heading back out this Friday and will be out there till mid/late July I am taking my Monster, ST2, and 900SS with me. My 996 stays out there. I makethe  lady that you all might have heard me refer to as my wife official that weekend. So I am taking the rest of my bikes out there so all my friends coming in for the wedding have something to ride. I will start a new thread so that any one who is out that way can meet up for a ride.

Then we did TWO iron butts. But doing all of that paperwork really chokes the fun outta riding and is a hassle I'm not gonna deal with.  I don't really give a shit if I get the license plate holder from IBA or not. Plus, what if I decide to bag it half way through - are there witnesses waiting at gas stops for us? Hate to waste their time and piss them off!

Just a note about Iron butt. There are not witnesses waiting for you at gas stops just a witness at the start and stop.
They do not have to be planned witnesses, though it works better if they are planed. For the gas stops your time and date stamped receipts work as your proof. That said I agree that it is a lot to keep track of and paper work.Plus I am just not that organized of a person. I ride for fun and camaraderie not for validation from others that I am tough or hard core. I have logged several 1000 mileres in 24 hours as I am sure many other hooligans have done and I have not a single thing to show for it except photos and memories of good/bad rides. Not that people who participate in the IBA are bad they just are a lot more organized than I.

F***in' piece of Italian crap would have broken down before I got across Kansas!

Huh. I've owned 7 Ducatis, and the only bike that left me stranded was a f***in' Honda (the infamous VFR rectifier problem.) I've ridden Ducatis to every corner of the eastern US, around Lake Superior thru Canada, and Missouri and back... not one problem.  The Multi has over 30,000 trouble-free miles on it, and will be ridden to Nova Scotia in August, 2-up.  Maybe Italian karma will catch up with me then? Wink

Not even my 916 or 996 racebikes have hiccuped... and they get treated SO nice Grin Grin Grin

Thanks for the trip report, and great pix!
